Special Events
The Highlander Club proudly sponsors a number of athletic and social events during the school year. These events are opportunities that allow supporters of UCR Athletics to come together socially and enjoy a unique opportunity or experience. Recent events include:
- The Gary McCord Golf Classic
- A Highlander Day on the Greens with Annika Sorenstam
- Rooter buses to marquee men’s and women’s basketball games
Gary McCord Golf Classic
The 20th Annual ProWest Gary McCord Golf Classic was held November 5th, 2007, hosted by UCR alumnus and CBS golf commentator Gary McCord at the historic Victoria Club in Riverside.
Funds generated by the event help to support the Highlander Club scholarship fund and directly impact the outstanding male and female student-athletes who balance the rigors of "student" and "athlete" and successfully excel at both. The 2007 tournament generated over $40,000.
When you meet the students, you will hear their aspirations and goals, and feel their competitive spirit. Their dedication is more than admirable; they are truly a reflection of the best the next generation has to offer.Gary McCord
A Highlander Day on the Greens
A clinic with LPGA all-time leading money winner Annika Sorenstam and an afternoon round on the prestigious BIGHORN Golf Club’s Canyon Course highlighted the Highlander Day on the Greens in 2006. Sorenstam was a gracious host at the event, taking time to take photos and sign autographs for participants, including members of the UC Riverside men’s and women’s golf teams.
